... there i was creating paintings with acrylic colors or made pencil drawings.
That was a good basis for the coming virtual world and it's visual and functional challenges.
In 1994 i made my first attempts at web design (Tripod and Angelfire, hello and thanks for the opportunities back than).
Since back then i have been moving along with every evolution of the web.
Sad to some of the creative options gone since then, there used to be a time when we could design websites in layers, with relatively simple hand written bits of code directly on each individual web page, these days that would mean FAST LOADING pages, but nah, the net went in a more complicated and complex direction, scripts in folders over folders and more thereof ...
Flash design also came and went, great stuff for creative artists, but nah, the internet went in another direction soon.
Than came Google and with it writing proper content, but, of course, the net evolution moved on to the most obnoxious part of it's history to those days, link exchange, for haven's sake, what a nutty time that was.
And where are we now ... the internet has caught up with reality, really!
It's hierarchy is now about the same as in the real world, on top a few real big corporations that have it all (or so they think) figured out and control pretty much everything else.
While once it was possible to appear in top ten search results merely because a website actually contained a lot of information relevant to the search criteria these days the big corporate enterprise sites have these spots reserved for them (or so it seems), becoming a high traffic website seems of greater importance than mere content, highest end technical solutions only entities with plenty of (self printed?) money can afford have clearly preferential treatment over - sorry to put it this way - mom and pop websites.
It's save to say, Google killed individual online creativity, but we freelance web designers keep on going on and try to help our clients to find the right niche for their products, services, events and contents!
